Composer - Bruce Springsteen

Where to find this song - Born to Run track # 5

Release Date - September 1975

"Born to Run" is the album that turned Springsteen from a phenomenon into a superstar. Bruce's first couple of releases found him working out his fascination with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison on earthy, wordy, folk-rock-R&B tunes full of soul and punch. He formed with the E Street Band in hopes of making a little more of an upbeat array of music, and with, as we all know, the quirky drummer from the Conan O' Brien show, ( Max Weinberg), Bruce catapulted himself into stardom as almost a "big band" kind of man.

This song is pretty fun to play. It isn't difficult at all, so this one should take you no time to get down. Begin by forming an E chord. Here is a chord diagram for it, and below a little more of a detailed explanation of how to form the chord.

How To Play It

Part 1

The E chord is performed by placing your 1st finger on the first fret of the "G" string. Place your 2nd finger on the second fret of the "A" string. Place your 3rd finger on the second fret of the "D" string. That is an E chord:

Part 2

Ok, now that you understand that, play that formation one time all together. Then, pick the "A" string on the second fret once, and proceed to place your 4th finger on the second fret of the "G" string. Then you play that note. Let off, and as long as you kept your 1st finger where it was before, play that note once on the first fret. For the next part, use your 3rd finger to play the fourth fret on the "A" string. Play that once. Next, use your 1st finger to play the second fret on the "D" string, and then your 3rd finger to play the fourth fret on that same string to finish off the measure. You are done with the riff!
