Riff RundownDifficulty: Easy - Intermediate Composer - GNR Where to find this song - Appetite for Destruction track # 7 Release Date - April 1987 The Band: At a time when pop was dominated by dance music and pop-metal, Guns N' Roses brought raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the charts. They were not nice boys; nice boys don't play rock & roll. They were ugly, misogynist, and violent; they were also funny, vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive, as their breakthrough hit, "Sweet Child O' Mine," showed. IntroThe intro consists of 2 guitar parts and the bass. Here's what they sound like together:
Guitar 1
Begin the first guitar part by placing your 3rd finger on the fourth fret on the "A" string. Barre your 1st finger on the second frets on the "D" string, the "G" string, and the "B" string. What you will be doing now is playing an arpeggio. Follow the tablature until you have played the fourth fret the second time on the "A" string. Next, just leave your 1st finger in place. All you have to do next is lift your 3rd finger off, and use your 2nd finger to play the third fret on the "A" string. Next, just move your 1st finger that was barred and cover the "A" string as well on the second fret. Use your 3rd finger to play the fourth fret on the "D" string. Play the second measure by barring your 1st finger on the second frets of the "low E" string, the "A" string, the "D" string, and the "G" string. Use your 3rd and 4th fingers on the fourth frets on the "A" string and the "D" string. Pick accordingly.
Guitar 2Play the second guitar part by using your 2nd finger on the ninth frets on the "high E" string and the "G" string. The best bet here is to fingerpick this part. Move to the eighth fret next, and then to the seventh fret. End this part by using your 1st finger on the fifth fret on the "high E" string, and your 2nd finger for the sixth fret on the "G" string.
Bass GuitarPlay the bass part by using your 1st finger on the sixth fret on the "G" string. Move your 4th finger to the ninth fret on the same string. Use your 3rd finger for the eighth fret, and then use your 2nd finger for the sixth fret. Play the fifth fret with your 1st finger. Then, use your 2nd finger on the sixth fret, and then your 1st finger on the fifth fret. Move your 1st finger to the fourth fret to end the measure. Begin the second measure by just moving your 1st finger to the fourth
fret on the "D" string. Play the "E" string once
open and then use your 1st finger to play the second fret on the same
string. Use your 3rd finger for the fourth fret on the "G" string,
and then use your 4th finger for the fifth fret. The rest of the bass
line is repetitive.
