Crosspicking : The Alternating Roll Pattern

Alternating Roll Patterns are much like what you have already done in the Forward Roll Pattern, but here you will be working with a little different pattern arrangement to really help you grasp the concept. Below you will see some tablature that will help you with this. The symbol at the bottom of the tablature that looks like a staple would be your downstroke, and the symbol "v" will be your upstroke. Try working on these arrangements, all using open notes, at your own pace. Never try to get ahead of yourself. It is all much like mathematics. You will have to understand the basics before you move on to the more advanced subjects therein.

In the tablature below, you will still use the same ascending pattern as above, but you will be playing different strings.

This tablature shows you skipping the strings a bit more now.

In this tablature, notice that there is a rest after the fourth open note in both measures. This will allow you to get used to breaks in songs and help you work with getting back in to the pace of skipping strings after a rest.
