"Time For Me To Fly" by REO Speedwagon Part I

Riff Rundown

Difficulty: Easy - Intermediate

We are doing this lesson in chunks because to play this song correctly, you will have to change tunings if you plan on playing it only using your acoustic.

The overall acoustic guitar tuning is D,A,D,F# (or Gb if you use a tuner), A, D

You can do one of two things :

1. Play the correct acoustic rhythm and spend three days trying to figure out what in the world he was doing.

2. Play it like I did, getting the overall idea.

I know that sounds strange, but in some cases, tablature is a little TOO specific. I didn't watch each and every strum, as you will be able to tell. Overall, I think the song comes through fine.

The hard part is getting that A string to mute. My fingerings were :

1st finger on the fifth fret, 3rd finger on the fifth fret on the Low D string, and 4th finger on the F#(Gb) string. That will allow you to use your 2nd finger to mute the A string. Of course, you can use the 1st finger and angle it, but I had trouble doing this. I still got that note ringing a little.

Intro

Verse 1 and 2

Notice here how on the fifth frets being played, this time you will play the A string. What I did was this :

1st finger on the Low D string, 2nd finger on the A string, 3rd finger on the D string, and 4th finger on the F#(Gb) string.

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Guitar 1 ends at the first Aadd4. Then, as you can see, Guitar 2 comes in. It is in standard tuning. Remember, technically the acoustic ends on the first Aadd4.
